Refurbishment of Exclusive Gym SpacesJohannesburg
Trend Group was appointed as main contractor for the Virgin Active Gym Refurbishment at Alice Lane in Johannesburg, delivering the build as part of the brand’s national upgrade programme. The scope included specialised fitness environments such as a GRID functional training studio and Reformer Pilates studio, as well as enhanced wellness facilities including an infrared sauna and cold plunge pool. Works comprised new partitions and ceilings, specialist flooring, timber panelling, and coordinated building services installations. This project highlights Trend Group’s expertise in commercial fit out and technically complex refurbishment projects as part of multi-site rollout programmes.
As part of Virgin Active’s national gym refurbishment programme, Trend Group was appointed as the main contractor to deliver the upgrade of the Virgin Active Alice Lane Collection club in Sandton, Johannesburg.
Working in collaboration with the design and engineering teams, Trend Group’s role was to execute the build of this project.
At Alice Lane, the scope covered a series of fitness spaces, including a GRID functional training studio and a Reformer Pilates studio. Enhanced wellness amenities were also delivered, most notably an infrared sauna — the first of its kind at Virgin Active gyms in South Africa — alongside a cold plunge pool.
The works involved extensive internal construction, incorporating new partitions and ceilings, specialist flooring systems, timber wall panelling, glazed studio partitions, and coordinating various building services. Feature elements such as linear and recessed lighting, detailed ceiling installations, and wet-area construction required careful coordination to achieve consistent execution across the various spaces.
This project reflects Trend Group’s capability to reliably execute the build of commercial spaces beyond offices, and manage technically coordinated refurbishments as part of large-scale, multi-site rollout programmes.
