Unilever
Embracing Agile Working
Unilever, the multinational consumer goods powerhouse, sought to transform their South African office to reflect a new agile working style while maximising efficiency within a reduced office footprint. Partnering with Saville Row Architects, Trend Group was tasked with creating a flexible workspace designed to enhance staff morale and encourage collaboration in a vibrant environment.

Engaging Employees in the Design Process
To ensure the new Unilever office met the needs of its users, Trend Group conducted a series of workshops with employees from various teams. This collaborative approach helped to identify their requirements and aspirations for the workspace, ensuring the final design encapsulated the desired work culture. By genuinely engaging with the staff, the project aimed to create a space that supports and inspires their everyday activities.
Infusing Local Authenticity
The redesigned office showcases a unique industrial aesthetic, incorporating vibrant African elements to celebrate local culture and authenticity. Bright colours, alternative furniture options, and lush green walls breathe life into the workplace, creating an energising atmosphere. The reception area cleverly doubles as a café and social plaza, fostering a welcoming environment that reinforces employees’ sense of belonging from the moment they enter.

A Dynamic Work Environment
Overall, Trend Group’s innovative fit-out for Unilever’s South African office successfully combines functionality and creativity. By fostering a collaborative and dynamic workspace, this project not only addresses the company’s operational needs but also enriches the employee experience, reflecting Unilever’s commitment to creating a positive workplace culture.
