Breathing Life into Learning: Project Overview
Trend Group undertook a transformative design-build project for the 1,360 sqm LAL Language School in Cape Town to create an engaging and dynamic educational space. Inspired by Cape Town’s industrial vibe, the project balanced bold, creative aesthetics with functional learning environments.
Enriching Education: Understanding Client Needs
LAL sought to create an inspiring, student-centred environment that fused creativity with comfort. They required classrooms, collaboration zones, and breakout areas that embodied the lively, industrial spirit of Cape Town. Their vision was to foster an atmosphere that motivates and supports students in their academic journey.
Vibrancy Meets Function: Our Design Approach
The LAL Language School design captured Cape Town’s industrial character through features like exposed ceilings, screed floors, and visible services. To inject vibrancy, we incorporated bold colours drawn from the South African flag and a graffiti-style “Hello” wall at the entrance. Green planter walls and a dedicated “green room” brought nature indoors, while acoustic baffles were strategically placed to enhance comfort and focus in classrooms and hallways.
Refining the Vision: A Collaborative Process
Collaboration with LAL was crucial throughout the project. Multiple design workshops, site visits, and feedback sessions allowed us to fine-tune everything from feature walls to classroom layouts, ensuring alignment with LAL’s vision for a dynamic learning environment.

The LAL Language School’s result was a vibrant, industrial-inspired school space that reflects the energy of Cape Town. Custom graffiti walls, functional classrooms, and relaxing green zones combine to create an inspiring learning environment.
