design and build
Located in the popular Design Quarter in Fourways, Johannesburg, +258 is a new restaurant and offering authentic Mozambican cuisine (+258 is the dialling code for Mozambique). Trend was responsible for the implementation and fit-out for the project, whilst the design was carried out by Design 3B in Durban. Part of the brief involved relocating the restaurant from its former location in Durban to its new home in Design Quarter.
With its distinct cuisine and an authentic ambiance, the restaurant aims to transport patrons to the shores of Mozambique. The restaurant, complemented by a deli section, encompasses a food market-style atmosphere. The restaurant sought to maintain continuity by reusing joinery from its previous location. The combined design and implementation team skilfully matched the existing elements, employing aged timber and corrugated sheeting to recreate the rustic aesthetic that reflects the essence of Mozambican design.
Trend’s scope also included the installation of extraction systems, fresh air provisions, tiling, wet works, and bathroom facilities, ensuring a seamless integration of functionality and style.
Throughout the project, close coordination with the designers based in Durban was crucial. Trend facilitated effective communication between the designers, suppliers, and clients, acting as a mediator and ensuring smooth collaboration. The designers’ vision of capturing the remote Mozambican atmosphere was successfully realized, thanks to the ability and expertise of the Trend team. Their proficiency in both design and construction allowed them to step in when needed and handle any challenges that arose, resulting in a streamlined and collaborative process.
